MyBru App x Mandela Day – In Support of 67 Local Causes

MyBru App will be paying it forward on #MandelaDay by dedicating space on our app to 67 local causes actively doing something in Cape Town.

On Wednesday, to make it easier for you to find and support causes making a difference, all pins under our ‘entertainment’ category will be solely dedicated to 67 causes doing something in support of #MandelaDay2018.

#MandelaDay is all about making a difference. Let’s start in our own Mother City, and support those already invested in making our beautiful country a better place.

We need your help in deciding which #MandelaDay causes are doing the most to make a difference. You can let us know by sending an email to info@mybruapp.com, or you’re welcome to just DM us on Instagram (@mybruapp).

MyBru App x Primal Eatery – Exclusive Special

MyBru App x Primal Eatery – Exclusive Special

We’re excited to announce our exclusive special 🔥🥩 with our friends over at Primal Eatery – where the team is family, the food is sexy, and the drinks will make you stay for far longer than you intended to 😉

kxl content-1809

Kalvin Sutherland (our creative director 🎨) along with Rebecca Vogel (our in-house photographer 📸) took the opportunity to visit Primal and be the first to see our exclusive 3 course special exit the kitchen.

kxl content-1512

By incorporating an element of fire, innovative cooking techniques, and creative food styling, power-couple Brynn and Kristina have transformed the concept of family and food into the ‘not so average’ steakhouse Primal Eatery is today (but don’t let them hear you say steakouse, as they much prefer the term ‘meatery’ 🥩 – and rightfully so 😉).

kxl content-1680

“Absolute perfection, really. Executive Chef Ashraf is a culinary artist, and the dishes that he prepared were beautiful. I might have taken a bite or two of the dessert while Ky was taking photos… it was delicious 🤤” – Kalvin

SA City Pass: Cape Town in 2 days.

SA City Pass: Cape Town in 2 days.

With free access to 70+ attractions in and around Cape Town, and just 2 days to enjoy them, we had to plan carefully to make the most of our SA City Passes – and that’s exactly what we did!

Here’s what we got up to on day one:

Our first stop was 81 Long street, where we collected our SA City Pass and complimentary Hop on Hop off City Sightseeing Bus ticket – we hopped on the first red city sightseeing bus at around 09:00 and made our way to Table Mountain. Our City Pass let us skip the growing queue outside, and within a few minutes we were standing in the cable car taking in the beautiful view surrounding us.

We did some exploring on top of Table Mountain, made friends with some dassies, and grabbed some breakfast at the Table Mountain Café.

After our Table Mountain adventure, it was back to the red bus and through to Camp’s Bay to enjoy some American influence at Hard Rock Café, with great food, cocktails, and friendly service! Definitely a must if you’re a fan of rock and a good time.

From Hard Rock Café we made our way to the V&A waterfront, where we planned to do our first cruise, but unfortunately the skipper was unavailable, so we decided to do some shopping at H&M for their end of summer sale instead.

Next up was some stand up paddle boarding at SUP Cape Town, where we spent an hour taking a relaxed paddle up and down the waterfront canals. A tranquil, and enjoyable experience that we cannot wait to do again – and surprisingly easier than expected, so whether you’re an avid watersports enthusiast, or you’re trying it out for the first time, we would highly recommend it.

From our SUP session, we took a brief walk back to the harbor for our sunset champagne tour, which included beautiful views of Cape Town’s breathtaking coastline, accompanied by some whale watching. The Waterfront Charter’s team were friendly, and more than accommodating.

With some time left to spare, we decided to fit in the Cape Big Wheel – although we were exhausted, we still managed to enjoy the beautiful nightlife views of the city.

Day two:

Still exhausted from day one, and with Cape Town weather against us, we put on our jackets and started our day off at V&A food market for some breakfast and snacks – and then once again jumped on the city sightseeing bus, and headed through to Hout Bay for a cruise to seal island in the pouring rain. Cold, wet, but worth it.

From Hout Bay we stopped back at V&A, and finished off with a walk through the popular Two Ocean’s Aquarium – where we got to see some intriguing sea-life.

After two days of adventure, we were exhausted and ready to spend our last few hours relaxing.

Zeitz MOCAA: a contemporary art experience!

Zeitz MOCAA: a contemporary art experience!

What do you get when you combine beautiful contemporary art with free entrance? That’s right, a reason to be there, my bru!

MyBru App & The #DoMore Movement took the opportunity to visit Zeitz MOCAA (or Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) for the museum’s free entrance on a Wednesday between 10:00 and 13:00, and we were NOT disappointed.

domore_za_museum-9

Visiting Zeitz is an unparalleled museum experience from before you even step foot inside – situated in the silo district, we were met with breathtaking architecture and a sense of awe. Once inside, we found ourselves surrounded by towering walls made up of steel, glass, and carefully segmented cylindrical concrete tubes – which are occupied by cylindrical lifts that make getting up and down all the exhibition floors a little easier.

Zeitz showcases some of the best African contemporary art along with international exhibitions spread throughout 100 galleries and 9 floors – a truly unforgettable experience that the team would welcomingly enjoy again.

domore_za_museum-4

If a love for the arts is your thing, then be sure to visit Zeitz on a Wednesday between 10:00 and 13:00 for free entrance (with a valid ID), or make the most of their yearly memberships starting at R250.

domore_za_museum-8

Oh, and while you’re there make sure to visit Zietz MOCAA Food on the 6th floor for some lunch or refreshments 🙂

You can find out all the info you need about free entrance on MyBru App, or visit Zeitz MOCAA’s official website for more!

Boston Breweries: a craft beer experience!

Boston Breweries: a craft beer experience!

Our good friends over at Boston Breweries are excited to announce the beginning of their beer tasting & brewery tours – a great experience for avid craft beer veterans and newbies alike.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

The MyBru App team along with our competition winners joined Jason this past Friday for an in-depth tour of the brewery as he passionately went into detail about the process and logistics around the brewing of premium craft beer – from start to finish, and everything in between. We knew very little about what goes into crafting the perfect brew, and the importance that each stage of the process plays, so we were in for a treat.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

After our tour we ended with a tasting experience, where Jason once again went into the utmost detail about all 12 individual beers, from popular brews such as the Naked Mexican Lager to limited edition flavours like Van Hunks Pumpkin Ale. We took the opportunity to taste each brew, as we learned about names, history, and other interesting facts that separates Boston from the rest.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Tours and tasting are open to the public weekdays from 11:00 – 16:30 (unless otherwise arranged) with a small fee of R50pp, so if you’re a beer enthusiast or you’re just looking to broaden your horizons, then we would highly recommend stopping by.
